Improving accountability to their local community has been a driver for implementing a credible carbon management strategy for the Mitchell Shire Council. In addition they have joined the ICLEI Cities for Climate Protection Program. The Mitchell Shire Council uses CarbonView to measure and manage all aspects of their corporate carbon emissions.
The Shire of Mitchell located in central country Victoria has a population of 32,000 (Greater London: 12 million), land area 2,900 km² (Greater London: 319 km²) and is one of the fastest growing rural areas in Australia, located north of Melbourne.
Mitchell Shire Council has illustrated its commitment to reducing greenhouse gases by becoming a member of the ICLEI Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Program.
The CCP Program is an international campaign that helps local governments and their communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to global warming. It operates on the fundamental philosophy of ‘think global, act local.’
